The digital transformation trend increased the cyber security risks for businesses. In a report dealing with threats at the DNS layer, which is considered the basis of internet networks, it was seen that all DNS-based attack types increased. It was also revealed that about 9 out of 10 businesses were exposed to one or more cyber attacks in 2022.

TURKEY - The spread of digital transformation in all sectors and scales, the more fundamental inclusion of technology in business processes, has increased the importance of cyber security in terms of business continuity. Market research firm IDC's Global DNS Threat Report 2022 showed that 88% of businesses suffered one or more cyberattacks during the year. On the other hand, all types of attacks such as phishing, malware, zero-day and DNS tunneling against the DNS layer, which are at the base of all network infrastructures, increased compared to the previous year. Roksit CEO Hakan Uzun, known for his long years of experience in the cyber security ecosystem in Turkey, evaluated the latest developments.

Pointing out that cyber attacks are getting more complex every year, Hakan Uzun said, “Digital transformation has brought with it an increase in cyber security risks for businesses. Because the inclusion of technology in business processes makes businesses more vulnerable to cyber attacks that are increasingly difficult to detect. From IoT devices to virtual machines, from mobile devices to cloud platforms, every piece of technology means new risks. Most current cybersecurity approaches focus on layers other than DNS. However, DNS, which is at the base of corporate networks and applications and is the first place where malicious traffic can be observed, plays an important role in the visibility of cyber risks.

Three-quarters of the world's largest companies are insufficient in DNS security

The Domain Security Report revealed that three-quarters of the world's largest companies in the Forbes Global 2000 list are inadequate in DNS security. Underlining that businesses are also cutting their cyber security budgets, especially at a time when the possibility of recession is frequently talked about, Roxide CEO Hakan Uzun said, “Ensuring DNS security gives businesses the power to detect unusual traffic in their corporate networks. "Providing the visibility of network traffic also makes it possible to discover threats that use different attack surfaces and techniques and that can be hidden from traditional security systems."

“We detect unblocked malware traffic”

Pointing out that the increase in remote working and the use of employees' personal internet connections to access the corporate network increase the potential for internal threats, Hakan Uzun continued: “Roksit solutions, which are used by more than 1 million people in more than 10 thousand companies today, can also measure the functionality of cyber security solutions by working integrated with other security investments of enterprises. Our unique feature, called Security Gap, can detect malicious activity that other security products cannot report. We ensure that the gaps between the current and the ideal security situation of the enterprise are easily blocked by catching them at the domain stage. In this way, both the basic level layer of corporate networks are protected and the capabilities of existing security investments can be detected.”

Increasing awareness of DNS security

Pointing out that the importance given to DNS security among companies has increased despite the inadequacies in practice, Roksit CEO Hakan Uzun said, “In the IDC report, it is stated that 75% of the companies consider DNS security critical. Starting out as a domain classification project, three integrated products that we developed as Roksit today enable more than 1 million individual users to connect to the internet securely. 2022 has been a year in which we expanded in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. We have reached more than 74 countries with Roksit's solutions that provide end-to-end DNS visibility, scan and classify all domains on the internet with the support of artificial intelligence, and make it possible to block DNS-based threats at their source. While we grew 300% in 2022 with our solutions, which are the pioneers of DNS security, we also contributed to the increase in awareness on this issue. In the new year, we aim to add value to more businesses by expanding our partner ecosystem and adding Roksit solutions to the solution portfolios of visionary technology companies, and to become a global network in the field of DNS security, especially in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region.”
