ISTANBUL (TR) - While awareness of gender equality is increasing day by day, it is stated in the World Economic Forum's 2022 Global Gender Gap Report that unequal conditions between the genders have closed by only 4% in 16 years. Pointing out that it will take 132 years to achieve gender equality, the report states that North America has the highest level of equality with 76.9% in this regard. The level of gender equality in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, which includes Turkey, remains at 63.4%, and women in this region have access to only half of the legal rights that men have.

Despite increasing awareness of gender equality in global business and educational institutions, many countries are not making progress as expected. At TED University, which has been preparing thousands of young people for the business world every year since 2009, the Gender Studies Center, which has been working to create a university environment with high awareness and sensitivity on gender equality, has published the 2021-22 Academic Year Activity Report.

They organize seminars and podcast series within the scope of gender equality

In addition to the events held, the Center conducts two important seminar series: Building Feminist Bridges in the Academy and the Critical Masculinity Studies Seminar Series. Building Feminist Bridges in the Academy Seminar Series is held to create a dialogue between academics who carry out feminist studies at central and surrounding universities. In the Critical Masculinity Studies Seminar Series, presentations by academics who conduct critical studies on masculinity are included and discussions are held on this issue. In addition to the seminar series, podcasts covering many different topics in the field of gender are held. It is ensured that students are included in the activities of the center within the scope of part-time work. In addition to winter and summer internship programs, intern students are accepted through international student exchange programs. At the same time, the Center has taken important steps to provide free sanitary pads at TED University in a certain amount and for use in difficult-to-access situations, in order to combat the problem of menstrual poverty brought on by high taxes and price increases due to the economic crisis. The work required for this support to be sustainable continues.

TED University Gender Studies Center aims to reach more people and increase its contribution to gender equality by making it possible to monitor all its activities simultaneously from its website, social media accounts and published reports.
