The global ride-hailing platform earns official approval to launch in Istanbul, reinforcing its commitment to passenger choice and driver autonomy.

Istanbul – Global mobility and urban services platform inDrive has officially received a license to operate in Istanbul, one of Europe’s most dynamic urban transportation markets. Already active in 888 cities across 48 countries, the company now deepens its footprint in Turkey with a legal launch in its largest city.

To meet the licensing requirements, inDrive enhanced its services to fulfill all legal and technical obligations. The company says this move will allow it to offer both passengers and drivers greater freedom of choice—something it sees as a fundamental differentiator in an increasingly crowded market.

“We are proud to earn Istanbul’s approval.”

Tolga Baran, Country Manager for inDrive Turkey, stated: “We are proud to have earned the right to operate legally in Istanbul. This license enables taxi drivers to use our app legally, while providing passengers with the assurance that they are using a regulated and trustworthy service. Securing this license required time, resources, and commitment, proving how seriously we take the Turkish market.”

A ride-hailing model centered on user choice

InDrive’s approach differs from traditional ride-hailing platforms. Rather than automatically assigning passengers to drivers, the app allows users to choose among available drivers who respond to their trip requests. Passengers can review driver ratings, read user feedback, view estimated arrival times and vehicle models, and even see the driver’s profile photo before confirming the ride.

Baran emphasized that this system offers added peace of mind, especially in situations like late-night solo travel. He also pointed out that drivers have the autonomy to choose which rides they accept based on pickup location and passenger rating, reinforcing a two-sided freedom of choice that benefits both parties.

Expanding a driver-first platform

Unlike many competing services, inDrive does not charge high commission fees to drivers. The company frames this as a fairer approach that strengthens its relationship with the driving community while empowering users with flexibility.

Baran concluded: “We currently operate in over 888 cities across 48 countries, including here in Turkey. We’ve become the world’s second most downloaded ride-hailing app. Beyond passenger transport, our platform now includes intercity rides, freight logistics, and courier delivery. We believe this license in Istanbul will be the foundation for even broader impact in the near future.”
