VitrA's new eco-friendly sink is the world's first and only sink made of 100% recycled ceramic. By giving a new life to materials considered waste, the production process-related impact on global warming is reduced by 30% per product.

TURKEY - VitrA announced that it has produced the world's first and only 100% recycled ceramic sink in its category. About 100% of the content of the new eco-friendly sinks, including broken ceramics, is made from waste generated and disposed of during the production process. Thanks to innovative solutions developed at the VitrA Production Campus in Bozüyük, Bilecik, the production of eco-friendly vessel sinks began, and they were first introduced at the UNICERA Fair held in November. Following the sinks designed in matte beige and in 5 shapes, VitrA plans to add new products and colors to its recycled product range.

The production approach adopted by Eczacıbaşı Building Products for eco-friendly sinks maximizes the contribution to the circular economy. According to the Life Cycle Assessment results compliant with ISO 14040:2006 and 14044:2006 standards, using waste improves the global warming potential from environmental impacts by 30%. The production of recycled sinks aims to save about 5 kg of raw material per product with a 36% improvement by using less raw material, and to save 2.48 Kwh of electricity with a 38% improvement.

Reflecting VitrA's vision and leadership in sustainability, Eczacıbaşı Building Products CEO Özgen Özkan made the following statement regarding the sink that sets a new standard in sustainable design in the ceramic sector:

"Following an innovative business model and circular design principles, we started reusing the wastes from the production of ceramic sanitary ware in our own production process instead of sending them to another factory as raw material. This allows us to protect natural resources and ecosystems, reduce environmental impact and carbon dioxide emissions, overcome rising costs, and surpass raw material shortages and risks. The 100% recycled sink represents our commitment to using fewer resources, minimizing waste, and maximizing our contribution to the circular economy."

Emphasizing that the production of the world's first and only 100% recycled ceramic sink reduces the impact on global warming by 30% per product, Özgen Özkan said, "Eco-friendly sinks are coated with VitrA Hygiene technology. We are continuing our R&D efforts to use recycled materials for glazing as well. Following the sinks differentiated from packaging materials to the use of new icons, we aim to expand our product range by producing new products with 100% recycled materials."
