Evren Bozyel, the General Manager of supersigortam.com, stated that the “Traffic Proposal Platform” step taken by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) is recent weeks to address the issue of policy issuance in traffic insurance will be beneficial for users and the industry.

Evren Bozyelm, the General Manager of  Supersigortam.com, reminded us in a written statement that according to the decision published in the Official Gazette, the “Traffic Proposal Platform” will be put into operation on February 19th.

Bozyel stated that with the platform, the maximum premium amounts for drivers who cannot receive quotes for compulsory traffic insurance will be determined by SEDDK. "SEDDK indicates that this step is taken to ensure that insurance policies are offered in a fairer and more competitive environment," Bozyel said. "The platform will encourage more transparent competition among insurance companies, allowing consumers to choose the most suitable option from various quotes. With this initiative by SEDDK, customers of traffic insurance will encounter a wider range of quotes, and the competitive power of insurance companies will increase. This means that consumers can offer more comprehensive policy options at more affordable prices."

Bozyel continued, stating that after the platform is implemented, the project will have a second phase.

“During the second phase, insurance companies are expected to complete their software integration to access the platform. This step will expedite the process by enabling digitization and technological advancements in the insurance sector.

The Traffic Proposal Platform will not only facilitate drivers in acquiring insurance policies more easily and at competitive prices but also allow insurance companies to interact with a broader customer base. This move aims to enhance competition in the sector and offer consumers more choices."

Pooling System Criticism: Insurance Sector Advocates

Bozyel pointed out the insurance sector's long-standing discomfort with the problems arising from the pool traffic insurance system, stating, "Companies that generate insufficient premiums agree that transferring traffic insurance policies to the pool damages the industry. This situation pushes insurance companies to demand a transition to free tariff application, but vehicle owners are concerned that mandatory traffic insurance prices may increase.”

Bozyel noted that industry representatives emphasized the principle of a free tariff system at the national level in their statements on the matter, highlighting the unsustainability of the pool system. He indicated that companies advocate for transitioning to a free market and creating more favorable coverage. Bozyel continued:

“Industry representatives note that currently, the material coverage limit per accident in policies is 200,000 TL, which they consider insufficient, emphasizing the need to raise coverage to a reasonable level. During this period of criticism of the pool system, structural changes are expected to take precedence to balance the expectations of the industry and vehicle owners. Industry representatives believe that steps taken to ensure insurance policies are offered in a more fair and competitive environment will strengthen the sector. The aim is to find a solution tailored to the needs of both consumers and insurance companies during this process."
