TURKEY - On the last business day of the year, signatures were set for innovative energy storage solutions encompassing many firsts. Partner EGS and Polat Energy have signed an agreement for a 4MW-4MWh capacity energy storage system for the Soma RES project. The signing ceremony took place on Friday, December 29th. It was attended by Partner EGS CEO Dr. Alper Terciyanli, Polat Energy Board Member Neşet Özgür Cireli, and Soma Energy Board Member Aslı Kehale Altunyuva.
The energy storage system integrated into Turkey’s largest wind energy power plant (RES) project, Soma RES, will contribute to grid flexibility, reduce imbalance costs, and maximise production in this project, which will be the first application of integrating an energy storage system into a licensed wind energy power plant, Huawei, a solution partner of Partner EGS, will supply energy storage systems.
Dr. Alper Terciyanlı, the CEO of Partner EGS, said in his speech during the signing ceremony, “We are delighted to carry our pioneering applications in the Turkish energy sector, in collaboration with or strong solution partner Huawei, who has made many innovations globally. By integrating Partner EGS’s domestic software and engineering solutions into the hardware provided by Huawei, we offer competitive and high-quality energy storage systems that fully meet the market needs of renewable energy investors. We believe that our pioneering role here will also significantly contribute to the development of the sector, and we would like to thank all our stakeholders for their trust and support in choosing us during this process”.
Neşet Özgür Cireli, a member of the Board of Directors at Polat Energy, emphasised that they are the largest company in Turkey regarding installed wind power capacity and the largest RES operator. He states, “We take pride in achieving many firsts in the industry. Today, we have come together to accomplish a first once again. We will commission Turkey’s first grid-scale storage system at Turkey’s largest wind power plant, Soma RES. The signatures we have just put down are also a testament to our commitment to implementing Turkey's first storage-integrated RES. We will continue to invest in technology and strive for innovation and pioneering achievements.”
Neşet Özgür Cireli also pointed out that Polat Energy has been active in the renewable energy sector for over 20 years, saying, “With the wind and solar energy plants we have established, we generate approximately 2 billion kWh of electricity annually. As a result, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to planting 50 million trees and meet the electricity consumption of approximately 610,000 people”
