Simulation Week in Health, which has been celebrated globally since 2018, was celebrated with an event held at Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine Practices and Simulation Center. The centre was recorded as one of the two simulation centres representing Turkey for 2023 in the international event it took part in.

TURKEY - Simulation centres, as critical centres that support the education, training and continuous development of healthcare professionals, improve the quality of healthcare services while positively affecting patients' safety and health outcomes.

Since 2018, the globally recognised ‘Healthcare Simulation Week’ was celebrated with an event held at Kocaeli Faculty of Medicine’s Basic Medical Applications and Simulation Center (KOÜSIM). Having fully commenced its operations in 2022, KOÜSIM participated in this global event, registering as one of the two simulation centres representing Turkey. Throughout the event week, students training in the healthcare field participated in various simulation exercises, getting the chance to experience different medical situations using high-tech patient simulators”

KOÜSIM, which offers interactive and realistic simulations for students studying in the field of health to turn their theoretical knowledge into practical skills, provides students with clinical experience and the opportunity to develop essential health skills such as emergency interventions, patient care and communication.

“Simulations play a critical role in medical education”

The Kocaeli University Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Medical Education stated, “Simulation plays a critical role in medical education because it provides students with real patient care experience in a safe environment. While students have the opportunity to put their theoretical knowledge into practice, the possibility of making mistakes decreases. In this way, medical students can improve their clinical skills, preparedness for emergency responses, and communication skills. Simulations also increase self-confidence and make medical education more effective. Thus, it becomes an important educational tool for future healthcare professionals.”

Health simulation improves the quality of healthcare services

Representing Turkey in local and global events such as the “Health Simulation Wee”, which has been celebrated globally since 2018 and stands out as an event which emphasises the importance of health simulation in medical education, KOÜSIM introduces Turkey’s contributions in the field of health and education and simulation on international platforms. Educational institutions and health centres celebrate this event by organising different programs and events. This event, which emphasises the potential of health simulation to increase the safety of patients and the quality of health services, aims to contribute to the advancements in the health sector. It also helps to develop simulation technologies to better respond to the future needs of the health sects and encourages focus on its use.
