TURKEY - While awareness of gender equality is increasing day by day, it is seen that some countries and regions have not yet created sufficient conditions for this issue. The latest data released by the World Bank indicate that 2.4 billion women of working age around the world still do not have equal rights with men. He also states that the pace of global reform on gender equality remains at the lowest level in the last 20 years. Norway, Sweden and Australia are among the 36 countries where gender equality is most common in life, while Turkey ranks 35th with an index value of 56.5.
In-an Movement, which was established to raise awareness of gender equality in our country, as well as to increase women's employment in the business world, continues its activities at full speed. In this direction, the organization, which started the "We Are Opening the Sound" program series broadcast on the social media channel of the Harvard Business Review, has recently published the second part of the series. In this episode of the program, hosted by Twiser CGO (Chief Growth Officer) and the Founder of In-an Movement Bahar Taşkın Öztürk, Talent Hunter, Egon Zehnder Senior Partner Murat Yeşildere was hosted.
Introducing herself as a gender equality activist and male feminist, Murat Yeşildere talked about the Association We Are With You, which they founded with the aim of explaining the consequences of gender inequality to men. Yeşildere said that they focus on solving gender inequality through men, and pointed out that this way, they can progress faster in gender equality. While evaluating gender inequality within the framework of both work and home and social life, she also shared the developments carried out in our country in this direction.
Bahar Taşkın Öztürk, the Founder of the İn-an Movement, shared her thoughts on the subject with the following words: “In the second part of the We Are Opening the Voice program, where we aim not only to encourage individuals to transform for gender equality, but also to create value in this regard, we examined this issue from the eyes of men. In the next parts of the series, we will evaluate gender equality from different perspectives.”
Bahar Taşkın Öztürk stated that they support the multi-faceted approach they have adopted not only with this program but also through different activities: “We are a community that works to raise awareness on equality and inclusion. Our aim is to speak the unspoken and to create both individual and social awareness. In this direction, I recently attended the sustainability summit of the United Nations Women's Unit (UN Women) and HBR. At the event, we discussed the impact of gender equality on sustainable development. We will implement different studies in the following time periods," he said.
