TURKEY - As the second week has passed in the earthquake disaster, which has victimized many beneficiaries, the details regarding the application process for AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) Disaster Rights Ownership have also started to emerge. Within the scope of the compulsory earthquake insurance, the damage notification period, the support and opportunities to be provided to the disaster victims, and the information on how the insurance transactions will be carried out are summarized in the statement published by Hesapkurdu, which offers its users the opportunity to compare banking and insurance products. In the statement shared with the note "We wish to heal our wounds together and as soon as possible", the questions regarding the application for entitlement were answered.

The right ownership application will also be made via e-Government

In the region where the damage assessment studies are continuing, the right ownership application process has not started yet. In the information compiled by Hesapkurdu, it is stated that the transactions will be carried out on the application screen to be opened in the e-Government for AFAD Disaster Victim Entitlement once the damage assessment studies are completed. It was also stated that information on the damage status of the buildings can be accessed from the "Damage Determination" page created on the official website of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

Although the policy of the Natural Catastrophe Insurance Institution (DASK) includes a fifteen working day condition for claim notification, it has been noted that the agency evaluates the relevant article in favor of the insured and there is no time limit for making a claim report. In addition, it was pointed out that if the policy was lost in the earthquake, the insured's right to compensation would not be lost, and that right holders could apply via the Alo DASK 125 line after the process started.

The maximum collateral amount is 640 thousand TL

While it was stated in the information shared on the website of Hesapkurdu that AFAD provided cash aid and damage assessment support, guidance was given to the rights of the disaster victims within the scope of Law No. 7269. While it is known that earthquake victims can report TCIP damage through the Alo TCIP 125 phone line, e-Government System Damage Notice page and TCIP official website, Online Damage Transactions Page, it was reminded that as of January 1, 2023, the maximum coverage amount of TCIP compulsory earthquake insurance for all building types is 640 thousand TL. It was stated that the content of the TCIP policy pays the insurance fee for full and partial damages, the condition of complete demolition of the building is not required to benefit from TCIP, and the payments will be made within 1 month at the latest, after the compensation amount is finalized after the application and the documents are completed.

Insurance holders can access call centers

It was emphasized in the information compiled by Hesapkurdu, which offers a platform where banking and insurance products such as loans, credit cards, deposits, and insurance can be compared, that disaster victims who have insurance other than compulsory earthquake insurance can also reach the call centers of the companies from which they purchased the insurance. It was stated that disaster survivors who have different insurance products such as housing and property insurance, automobile insurance, personal accident insurance, and health insurance can benefit from the rights determined under the policy after checking whether their insurance policy includes earthquake coverage.
