It is predicted that cyber attacks, which have increased significantly in March 2020 and whose threat potential has increased over the past two years, will set a record by the end of 2022. Data breaches for small businesses globally have increased by 152% in the past two years. While the increase in attacks targeting larger organizations was measured at 75%, the difference brought back concerns that SMEs are more prone to cyber risks.

ISTANBUL (TR) - Offices closed as of March 2020, business processes that were moved to the digital environment, uninterrupted screen time and the explosion in online sales created a notable security vulnerability for cyber attackers on a global scale. One of the latest pieces of evidence that this trend is surviving has come from the global consulting firm PwC. According to the 2022 results of the Digital Trust Survey conducted by PwC with cybersecurity experts and senior executives from 66 countries, cyberattacks were predicted to break records again this year. Another report stated that more than half (53%) of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) suffered some form of cyberattack in the past year. The surviving risks have once again demonstrated the need for secure network architectures to protect businesses of all sizes that are increasingly adopting digital infrastructures.

After evaluating the developments, Berqnet General Manager Hakan Hintoğlu said, “Cyber security has become the key to business continuity and success today. The majority of SMEs prefer a payment system in its simplest form, turning into users of digital business processes. The use of digital platforms, especially in critical business processes such as finance and payment, makes businesses of all sizes the target of malicious people.”

The average cost reaches 75 thousand euros

In the report of PwC, it was pointed out that the cyber attacks that will increase the most in 2022 are those that focus on cloud platforms. On the other hand, attacks against ransomware, malware, supply chain, and corporate emails are also predicted to increase significantly. Reminding that in another report evaluating the cyber security risks of companies, it was stated that the data breaches suffered by SMEs increased by 152% in the last two years, Hakan Hintoğlu said, “The majority of SMEs unfortunately still do not have the workforce and technology to ensure the end-to-end security of their digital systems. Knowing this, malicious people focus on businesses with fewer than ten employees who think they will never be the target of a cyberattack. While large companies can more easily eliminate the adverse effects of a possible data breach, small businesses have to endure the severe consequences that can cause them to lose their jobs. Data shows that a cyberattack costs a small business an average of 75,000 euros. However, providing adequate protection against cyber threats is not as difficult as one might think. Our Secure Access Service (SASE) platform, which we developed as Berqnet, offers the network security architectures of the future ready for today's businesses. Easily installed and easily managed, Berqnet SASE stands out as a roof platform that includes a firewall, Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN), secure remote connection (VPN), and Secure Web Gateway (ZTNA) solutions.

“100% domestic R&D, Turkish lira prices”

Berqnet General Manager Hakan Hintoğlu, who also touched upon the cyber security recommendations that will help SMEs protect their businesses and reputations, concluded his evaluations with the following statements: “After understanding the importance of risks, first of all, basic security measures such as training the personnel, strong personal password, and two-factor authentication should be taken. As Berqnet, we stand by the enterprises with our SASE platform and firewall solutions that meet all the needs after this stage. Based on a zero-trust approach and questioning the accuracy and limits of each device connected to the business network at every access request, it enables remote devices and employees to access the same network securely. Berqnet solutions offer full control over the network to system administrators and result from 100% domestic R&D studies. On the other hand, businesses can benefit from the Berqnet SASE solution, which can be scaled according to needs and developed by KVKK and 5651 laws at TL prices. As Berqnet, we make it easier for our SMEs, which form the basis of our country's economy, to safely adapt to the digital world with our proven successes such as the 'Best Domestic Security Software of the Year Award' and the 'Innovative Product Award in SME.’”
