ISTANBUL (TR) - Reasons such as the increase in construction costs, the rise in land prices and macroeconomic fluctuations reduced the production of new housing in our country. While the Istanbul Builders Association (IDER) announced that the annual housing need is approaching 800,000, the Building Permit Statistics published by TUIK (Turkish Statistical Institute) for the first quarter of the year showed that the number of licenses applications for new houses has decreased. Compared to the first quarter of 2021, the number of buildings for which the municipalities issued construction permits fell by 22.5%, the number of flats by 27.9%, and the surface area decreased by 21.8% in January-March 2022.

Saying that the construction chemicals sector continues to grow despite this picture in construction, Seramiksan Turkey Sales Manager Mustafa AKBACI noted, “In the Construction Sector Report published by IMSAD, we see that there has been a 10% increase in construction chemicals production in 2020 compared to the previous year. Production has reached 6.15 million tons. The construction chemicals industry, which has risen, got this momentum from the low supply of new housing. Because those who dream of buying or renting a new house found the solution in renovations.”

The training needs of tile masters are increasing

Stating that the owners of the houses who will make the renovations prefer durable, sustainable materials to minimize the wear and tear that may occur over time and to create comfortable living spaces, Mustafa AKBACI said, “Homeowners need to use tiles to create more functional spaces, not only in the bathroom and kitchen but also in all living spaces while laying them. Being able to establish integrity between structure and material becomes a critical element. Here, tile masters really need to show their mastery. As Seramiksan, we also support them to increase their work quality with the applied training we organize.”

Special hands-on training for 50 ceramic masters

Stating that wood, concrete, and natural stone-looking tiles catch the trends in spaces such as living rooms and bedrooms, and offer a robust and hygienic solution at the same time, Seramiksan Turkey Sales Manager Mustafa AKBACI said, “The growing renovation market brings with it the need for qualified craftspeople. We also organize hands-on training where we can share our expertise in construction chemicals, tile, and sanitary ware products with the craftspeople. Recently, we held a training seminar in cooperation with our Ödemiş dealer in İzmir, Uygun Yapı, for craftspeople who want to step forward from their colleagues in terms of work quality and competition by improving their competencies in the field of ceramics. We started the training attended by 50 masters by talking about the technical details of tile and construction chemicals products. Then, we shared the issues that should be considered before and after the application.”

Customer experience ranks first in home renovations

Emphasizing that customer experience is a critical element in home renovations, Mustafa AKBACI said, “Especially people who want to renovate their homes, prefer to work with people with whom they have strong communication while looking for need-oriented solutions. Therefore, in addition to mastering the technical details in the materials, it is necessary to develop a customer-oriented approach during the application phases. In our seminar, we discussed issues related to increasing customer satisfaction in the company of Seramiksan Construction Chemicals Production Manager Ahmet Küçük. We talked to our masters about communication practices so that they can produce mutual solutions in cases where their dissatisfaction occurs in business processes. We will continue our efforts to increase the competencies of the masters operating in this field.”
