ISTANBUL (TR) - The increase in the number of young people who will enter the labor market in the next 20 years presents a significant challenge in creating employment for the MENA Region (the Middle East and North Africa), which includes our country. Considering that the global average is 5.4%, the region, where the average unemployment is estimated as 9.2%, is turning to new searches related to education. Experts say today's youth will grow up to have multiple careers throughout their lives and need to acquire new skills, even after finishing school constantly.

Based on current workforce participation rates and population growth estimates, 127 million young people will enter the labor market in MENA by 2040. Kayhan Karlı, Founder of YÖM Schools, said that approximately 29 million jobs, almost 17% of the current total, are at risk of disappearing due to automation by 2030. They are expected to take advantage of the opportunities and create more. This situation increases the trend towards hybrid learning models.”

Hybrid education existed before the pandemic

Kayhan Karlı pointed out that a more successful educational output is achieved by evaluating the superior features of different education models in a hybrid education and said, “Actually, hybrid education is not a model used for the first time. Even before the compulsory online education brought by the pandemic, many institutions and states had adopted this model. The hybrid education model foreseen for the future is the combination of online education and face-to-face education. In the 'inverted classroom' application, the most obvious example of this model, students watch the video or educational content given by the teacher or instructor whenever and wherever they want. Then, question-answer or discussion sessions about these contents are held in the classroom. Many educational institutions successfully implement this system.”

A hybrid high school will open

YÖM Schools Founder Kayhan Karlı, who said that hybrid education provides self-learning ability and provides essential opportunities in terms of time management and efficient resource use, said that they would open the first hybrid high school in Turkey and said, “In 2013, together with Göknur Karlı, he established the Yenilikçi Öğrenme Merkezi (Innovative Learning Center). We embarked on a journey of creating social benefits through education. In addition to YÖM Schools with campuses in Istanbul and Izmir, we have carried out many different projects such as YÖM Family, YÖM Camp, YÖM Agency, and e-learning marketplace LEGOnimbus. Our 30 years of experience in different fields of education will now come to life at YÖM Hybrid High School. The high school, which will serve on the Anatolian side of Istanbul from the 2022-23 academic year, will open a quota of 60 students yearly. By the gender equality principle we have adopted, we will maintain the balance between boys and girls yearly.” Kayhan Karlı announced that while accepting students to YÖM Hybrid High School, besides the LGS score, the student's portfolio and relationship with digital will also be examined, and written and oral evaluations will be made through articles and interviews.

Two diplomas will be awarded

Emphasizing that young people follow education and life opportunities abroad from an early age, Kayhan Karlı said, “At YÖM Hybrid High School, which has a hybrid education model that offers the opportunity to take lessons from educators who are experts in their fields from all over the world, half of the lessons will be held at school, and the other half will be held with online and flipped learning methods. Young people from YÖM who will simultaneously graduate from Turkey and the United States with high school diplomas; will develop skills suitable for global opportunities, gain the entrepreneurial spirit, and will be equipped to design their own futures. Students who will complete the online high school program of Brigham Youth University in the USA in the 11th grade will be able to prepare for the university exam in Turkey in the 12th grade. In the high school, where the medium of instruction will be English, two more foreign languages will be taught after the compulsory preparatory class.”

To prepare young people for business life

Kayhan Karlı, the Founder of YÖM Schools, stated that, in addition to double diplomas, YÖM students who will graduate with certificates documenting the skills they acquired in rich workshop programs will have the opportunity to receive acceptance from universities in Europe and the USA, and concluded his words as follows: “While students are preparing for university and business life with the 8-week Entrepreneurial Young Leaders Academy program, they will receive internationally valid, blockchain technology-credited certificates with the Singapore-based YouthCast Career Preparation Program. We will also offer international youth camp and student exchange program alternatives to young people.”
