ISTANBUL (TR) - With the package they named Fit for 55, European countries focused on finding ways to turn policy proposals developed to reduce carbon emissions into practice. In this context, renewable energy sources such as hydroelectricity were listed among the priority items by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Association) program, which aims to increase cooperation between countries, of which Turkey is one of the founders. TED University Mechanical Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Action proposal PEN@HYDROPOWER (Pan-European Network for Sustainable Hydropower), which includes Selin Aradağ, was ranked 2nd among 70 projects selected this year within the scope of COST.
Sharing her evaluations about COST, which more than 600 projects apply every year, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ Çelebioğlu said, “It is pleasing that our action proposal, which we developed together with our partners from Europe, was deemed worthy of being supported as the 2nd among many projects. Considering the need for sustainable and clean energy in Europe and the world, we believe that our PEN@HYDROPOWER project will open an important door for the transition to clean energy and the more meaningful use of water in energy production. I am proud to represent TED University and Turkey on the project board.”
Stating that the primary goal of the action proposal accepted by the European Union COST program is to create a network between researchers, engineers, academics, industry and civil society representatives across Europe, and to support the projects of research groups on the subject, TED University Mechanical Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ said, “This action, which we call PEN@HYDROPOWER, will host activities that will increase studies such as the expansion of hydropower in Europe, its digitalization, its sustainable application and its regulation in a way that will help it be used with other clean energy types. The action, designed as a networking project, was among the projects deemed fit for support by the European Union this year. Our project is positioned as the 2nd among 70 projects determined by COST”.
Explaining that the action will take four years and that she will serve as a member of the board of directors of the action, Prof. Dr. Selin Aradağ concluded her evaluation with the following statements: “Our action proposal named PEN@HYDROPOWER, in line with COST's mission to ensure the coordination of researchers at the European level and support the network activities of European scientists, is to organize Action Management Committee meetings, scientific workshops and seminars, scientific visits, courses and activities for four years within the budget to be provided by the EU will lead research conferences and publications. Our action, which will touch on branches of science such as Mechanical Engineering, thermodynamics, electrical - electronic engineering, sustainable engineering, economics, business, and hydrology, will focus on bringing all stakeholders together to facilitate cooperation between research groups in Europe.”
