ISTANBUL (TR) - While the importance of reading books is increasing day by day, research on the subject draws attention to the importance of reading books, especially for children born in the digital age. According to the data published by Comfyliving, it is stated that children who read at least 20 minutes a day are introduced to approximately 2 million new words a year, while the positive effects of reading books on children's brain and language development are underlined. Tudem Literature Awards, organized for the twentieth year by TUDEM Publishing Group to bring original works to children's and youth literature in our country, brings children together with new books they will read with admiration and opens the doors of the literary world to writers and writer candidates. The jury of the competition, whose applications will last until November 1, 2022, consists of the authors, Güzin Öztürk, Hanzade Servi, Koray Avcı Çakman, Mavisel Yener and Miyase Sertbarut, who won the "first place" in the novel category at the Tudem Literature Awards.

Applications continue at full speed…

Stating that the applications for the traditional competition continue, Hanzade Servi, one of the jury members, said to the authors who will participate in this year's Tudem Literature Awards, "When you participate in the competition, you should know that you have a good book in your hand. This requires being a critical reader before the author. Make your book an exciting read. And pay attention to the specification. You don't want your awesome file to be eliminated just because you forgot to add a nickname!” Koray Avcı Çakman shares the process awaiting the contestants with the following words: “The selection committee members read the works in detail and score each one out of 100. On a date determined by the competition coordination team, probably in the first months of the new year, the jury members come together to share their scores and views on the works. After the evaluations made at the meeting, the winning works are determined by the majority votes.”

Writers gain motivation through competitions!

Miyase Sertbarut, one of the jury members, who stated that participating in the competitions increases the motivation of the writers, said, “Participating in literature competitions gives one the motivation to write and provides a discipline. Receiving an award in the competition of a publishing house such as Tudem Publishing Group, which has come to the fore with its strong literary works, means serious approval. Your awareness will increase, and you will have a chance to reach more readers.” While discussing the importance of the competition with her words, Güzin Öztürk said, “The Tudem Literature Awards enabled me to enter the literary world I am in as a reader and a writer. It has increased my belief that I can write. After learning that I had received the award, I couldn't get off the clouds for a long time with happiness. As someone who had not tried to write a novel until the day I entered the competition, this award was very encouraging for me.” She drew attention to the psychological effects of the competition.

It adds color to our children's and youth literature...

Mavisel Yener, on the other hand, evaluated the importance of Tudem Literature Awards in our children's and youth literature as follows: “This competition not only provides an oxygen-rich climate to children's literature but also brings a different breath with many quality works. While writers can exhibit the beautiful and artistic use of Turkish, children also have the opportunity to meet works that will gain aesthetic, intellectual, and emotional reflexes. The importance of the competition is not limited to this. Because children who grow up with these books will be qualified readers and writers of tomorrow.”
