According to TUIK data, while youth unemployment decreases in Turkey, the happiness of young people does not increase with the same momentum. Educators point out that the skills companies are looking for should be matched with the strengths, values and interests of young people, and that career programs that utilize educational-entertainment psychology will open this challenge.

ISTANBUL (TR) - According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), as of the end of 2021, the population aged 15-24 in Turkey is 11 million 956 thousand people. The unemployment rate in this age group was 25.4%, 25.3% and 22.6%, respectively, in the 2019-2021 period. The rate of young people who are neither in education nor in employment was recorded as 2 million 959 thousand. The ratio of these young people to the population, on the other hand, has followed a decreasing course in the last 3 years and realized as 26%, 28.4% and 24.7%. According to the results of the Life Satisfaction Survey conducted by TURKSTAT, the rate of those who declared themselves happy among the young population in the 18-24 age group decreased by 56.7%, 47.2% and 44.5% between 2019-2021.

Commenting on the increase in the unhappiness of the youth even though the unemployment rate has decreased, LEGOnimbus Academy Director Işıl Tapkan said, “We need to evaluate this situation in terms of both the business world and the youth. Faced with a shortage of talent after the pandemic, the global business world is waiting with open arms to add young people with 21st century competencies to the workforce. However, young people cannot determine their expectations and goals correctly, and they have difficulties in finding a job and workplace that is suitable for their competencies and where they will feel happy. However, it is not difficult at all to equip young people with the skills that will eliminate this situation, and facilitate them to find a job not only in Turkey but also abroad.”

Internationally valid certificate credited with blockchain

Stating that young people who do not have sufficient skills miss the opportunities offered by the business world, Işıl Tapkan explained that the YouthCast Career Preparation Program, which is prepared on 21st century business life skills, offers a certified training program that is internationally valid and credited with blockchain technology. Işıl Tapkan said that the digital learning marketplace LEGOnimbus and its online learning center LEGOnimbus Akademi are the Turkish representatives of the program, which aims to warm up young players to the business world, and said, “YouthCast offers a learning platform suitable for 15-24 age group to be successful in the business world and acquire the right skills. The language of education in the 8-week program consisting of asynchronous and synchronous courses for high school and university students is English. Packing complex concepts into easy-to-understand knowledge sets, digital courses turn best practices into action steps. Those who successfully complete the 5-module program that follows the learning methods of young people can use their internationally valid qualification certificates credited with blockchain technology in all job applications.

We look forward to the continuation of the courses, which are a good example of lifelong development.”

“We use educational-entertainment psychology to increase the permanence of knowledge”

Batıkan Rumelili, one of the YouthCast trainers, made the following assessment: “We held the first lessons with high school and university students invited from all over Turkey and the educators who wanted to use the program themselves. You can apply to the program individually through the LEGOnimbus Academy. High schools and universities can also open this program as a course. Thanks to YouthCast, which uses edutainment psychology to increase the permanence of knowledge, everyone has access to an equal playing field in order to advance in their careers and lead meaningful lives. The program, which has touched nearly 1 million young people from 10 countries to date, is recommended by an international board of thought leaders and curriculum advisors.”
