ISTANBUL (TR) - The rock musician Demir Demirkan, the owner of popular songs such as “Zaferlerim” and “Aşktan Öte”, the guitarist of the Pentagram group, the composer of film music and the lyricist of the song “Everyway That I Can”, which won the first place in Turkey in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest, was a guest on the broadcast of the world's first Rock metaverse and NFT project. Demir Demirkan answered the questions of Selçuk Eser and Gözde Vanlı, the founding partners of his project named Rock'n'Verse, as well as project manager Onur Atam, in a live broadcast on Twitter, Discord and YouTube. In the broadcast, which lasted approximately 70 minutes, Demirkan shared his views on what a new ownership opportunity like NFT means for rock music and the future of the metaverse.

Demir Demirkan: “NFT technology will be a very good thing for music”

Pointing out that ownership of music is a much more important and valuable concept in the era of records, cassettes and CDs, Demir Demirkan said, “After the digital era, the value of owning music was lost with the trend of copying and duplicating. If NFT gets us to a system that can get us back to that point, that is, if a limited number of copies of music that are unlimitedly available on streaming platforms become a tradable asset, whether it's on the same CD or cassette, I think it will be a tremendously good thing for music.” Emphasizing that this is exactly why the music industry has deteriorated, Demirkan stated that the fact that musicians cannot find the budget and energy to invest in their work affects the listeners the most. Gözde Vanlı, the co-founder of the project, said, “Recently, artists have not been able to benefit from the copyright of their works as in the past, they have released their works without any expectation of income with the payments that streaming platforms keep at a very limited rate. We eliminate the disadvantage of this situation with digital ownership made possible by NFTs.”

Onur Atam: “NFTs will become a condition for obtaining certain privileges”

Noting that NFTs have actually existed since the first day of the emergence of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, Rock'n'Verse Project Manager Onur Atam said, “Now the concept of ownership can be connected with an identity in a digital sense. The system provides individuals with the ability to keep their digital assets thanks to the wallet they have. I think that NFTs will become a prerequisite for belonging to certain communities, to be able to obtain certain privileges. In this case, it becomes very important what the community and the owners of the project do. Just like cryptocurrencies, NFT projects that create value, manage to tell a story and create a business model will be able to survive.”

The world's first rock music themed NFT and metaverse project was announced last month.

Sharing details about the project, which aims to support independent rock musicians and record companies by creating an economy with NFT collections and the virtual universe, Rock'n'Verse Founder Selçuk Eser said, “For the first time, an NFT project provides resources for a virtual universe that appeals only to rock musicians and listeners. The first phase of the project will come to life with the NFT rock single, designed as a special version of Phoenix, the first single of the SkinRunners group, featuring Bartu Gülhan, the finalist of 2018 “O Ses Türkiye”. The remaining phases of the NFT prejoe, which will be offered in three phases, will go on sale in the second quarter of 2022. The first trials of Metaverse concerts will be held in the third quarter of this year. In this process, we will continue to talk to popular rock musicians about all the stages and concepts in our broadcasts on YouTube, Discord and Twitter.”
