ISTANBUL (TR) - In the coronavirus pandemic that has affected the whole world since last year, most of the citizens living in big cities returned to their hometowns. Those who tend to spend certain times of the year in their summer houses, thinking that the summer months will come and it will be safer, started to go to the city centers only for their work. Saying that this situation has brought to the fore the homeware storage services that have existed in Turkey for many years, Göztepe Nakliyat ve Storage A.Ş. CEO Ulaş Gümüşoğlu said, “As of July 2021, we see that there is a 28 percent annual decrease in urban relocations. People do not prefer to move between cities by choosing smaller settlements or due to pandemic and economic reasons, because the process of storing household goods offers a very economical opportunity compared to renting a house.”

The highest demand is in Istanbul

Noting that they encounter a very intense demand for transportation and storage of goods in Istanbul, Gümüşoğlu said, “Even though 381 thousand 654 people left Istanbul last year, it is not possible for everyone to completely break away from the mega city, which is the center of the business world. Therefore, storage demands are mostly preferred by those who spend the summer months in their summer houses and those who are only in Istanbul for business.”

Urban transformation will increase demands

Gümüşoğlu, who predicts that the goods storage sector will continue to develop in the future, regardless of the pandemic, stated that this increase is closely related to the development of the construction sector. Gümüşoğlu said, “The goods storage industry is in a sense related to new constructions. We foresee that the increase in demand will continue, especially in areas with urban transformation. In order to best respond to these demands, a certain standard must be adopted in the storage and transportation sector. Only in this way can we become a customer-oriented industry where unfair competition is reduced.”
