The High School Ambassadors' Intercultural Integration Camp (Orientation Camp), organized by the International High School Student Exchange Program WCEP for students admitted to the programs every year, was held between 31 July and 2 August. WCEP Turkey General Manager Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, “By creating a forum where students can meet and support each other morally, we have allowed them to share with students who have participated in our student exchange programs before.”
As September approaches, when the new academic year will begin in schools, the preparations of students who will go abroad for education have already gained momentum. Finally, the International High School Student Exchange Program WCEP announced that it organizes an Intercultural Integration Camp (Orientation Camp) for students admitted to the programs every year.
The camp, attended by students who will study in Canada and America in the 2021-2022 academic year, students who have studied in the same countries before, and trainers from the education world, was held at the International Abant Palace on 31 July-2 August.
All practical information necessary in daily life was conveyed
Making a statement on the subject, WCEP Turkey General Manager Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, “Our aim is to provide our students with a guide that will make their social and academic lives easier before the academic year they will spend abroad starts. In this context, we created a forum where students can meet and support each other spiritually, allowing them to share with students who have participated in our student exchange programs before. We had them ask questions and collectively find solutions to their concerns, if they have any. The main topics we covered during the camp are cultural and intercultural learning, communication and group dynamics, conflict resolution, program rules, rights and responsibilities, course choices and academic life, technical and logistic issues, social life and daily life, problem resolution mechanisms, flight and the entry systems to foreign universities with visa and financial information."
Based on experiential learning
Cerrahoğlu, who also conveyed the details of the education given to the students during the camp, said, “As WCEP, we continue to hold the hand of the young people who will build our future, and we do not stop walking next to them for a moment so that they grow up as individuals whose feet are firmly on the ground. We believe that we will overcome all obstacles with the cooperation we have developed around the world. Just like in the training programs abroad, we paid great attention to the training given in the orientation camp. So much so that the content of the training given within the scope of the camp program was developed within the framework of intercultural learning and was prepared in accordance with David Kolb's experiential learning model. In this context, we aimed to create the most productive learning environment for the participants by using methods such as large group work, role plays, simulations during the training.”
