ISTANBUL (TR) - The coronavirus pandemic, which the world is fighting throughout 2020, has shown its effects in foreign education as well as many areas. In the first months of the pandemic, countries took precautions and closed their borders, auditioning student exchange programs and disrupting school admissions. The disruption was averted by September 2020, when the pandemic was largely under control, and applications had resumed. The selection of candidate students who want to study abroad in the 2021-2022 academic year continues until April 2021 as part of the pandemic measures. In this process, high school students prefer Canada.

Commenting on the issue in the International High School Student Exchange Program WCEP Turkey General Manager Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, “With the distance education infrastructure it currently uses, Canada continues to successfully maintain its education system under pandemic conditions. Students in particular with the adoption and implementation adopted during the training required for students in Turkey in assuring the continuity of health points or education.”

Students continue to be required 14 days of quarantine and health insurance

Referring to Canada's conditions for student admission, Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, “Students who have an existing study permit to Canada will be able to participate in exchange programs in the 2021-2022 academic year. There is a 14-day quarantine condition when entering the country after the flight. As of January, a negative PCR test result is made at most 3 days before the arrival date and the result is required. At the same time, the student must have health insurance. There is a two-stage visa application for students who will participate in diploma, undergraduate and master programs at colleges and universities online. Visa applications are also open for students going to language school. However, the disclosure period of visas can take up to 5 months.”

Only schools with Covid-19 preparation plan approved can accept students from abroad

Stating that new practices have started in the education system of Canada in line with pandemic conditions, Cerrahoğlu explained the relevant procedures as follows: “In Canada, the education ministries of each state follow the number of patients and the course of the pandemic in coordination with the public health experts in their regions; It takes measures to protect the health of both students and the local community. While schools are open to face-to-face education in regions with few or no patients, in regions with a denser population and high number of patients, periodic distance education is possible, as well as hybrid and alternative education models. Measures have been taken on a national basis for international students to be included in education during the pandemic process. In this context, only educational institutions that have the Covid-19 Preparation Plan approved by the state are allowed to accept students from abroad. Applications continue within the quotas and both physical and online methods are used in student selection.”

“We guide our students not only in metropolitan cities but also in Anatolia”

Stating that as WCEP, they aim to provide the opportunity to audition for students who want to participate in the program from all over Turkey, Cerrahoğlu said: “We offer opportunities for our students not only in metropolitan cities but also in Anatolia to get high school education abroad, and we guide them to realize their dreams. Currently, auditions are taking place in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Hatay, Kayseri, Malatya, Manisa, Mersin, Muğla and Uşak. As WCEP, we continue to hold the hands of the young people who will build our tomorrow, and we do not stop walking next to them for a moment so that they will grow up as individuals whose feet are firmly on the ground. We believe that we will overcome all obstacles with the collaborations we have developed around the world.”
