Conflict, violence and natural disasters forced 41.3 million people to migrate

The number of people who left their country due to violence, conflict, war and natural disasters, regardless of economic reasons, reached a total of 41.3 million. Syria was the country with the highest migration with 6.1 million, followed by Colombia with 5.8 million and the Democratic Republic of Congo with 3.1 million. The total number of people who migrated due to conflict and violence has nearly doubled since 2000. As in previous years, natural disasters triggered the vast majority of migrations. While the number of people who migrated due to storms reached 9.3 million people, the number of people who migrated due to floods was recorded at 5.4 million.

Global refugee population reaches 25.9 million in 2018

The main countries facing the refugee problem were Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Eritrea and Burundi.
