ISTANBUL (TR) - The volunteer work done to improve the living conditions of street animals in Turkey is increasing every day. It is seen that animal lovers living in the environment are mobilized especially for the sheltering and feeding needs of animals in city centers. However, this picture is not similar for animals trying to survive in forested areas far from the city center. Youtuber Burak Güngör, who took action to draw attention to this situation, together with the Grumpy Old Animal and Environmental Activists Association working for stray dogs in Beykoz Forest, cooked 1.5 tons of food in one day and distributed it to more than a thousand dogs living in the forest. Güngör, who recorded the whole process on YouTube channel, which has more than 1.5 million followers, said, “We know that there are lives in need in our neighborhood, even if they are not in our streets. If we breathe the same breath with them, let us know how to extend our hands.”

Even a crumb is enough to keep a life alive

Burak Güngör, who worked voluntarily for two days in the Grumpy Old Animal and Environmental Activists Association in Beykoz, stated what he experienced as follows: “The animals collected from the streets on the complaints and left in the mountainous or forest areas are much further away from our help. Beykoz Forest is just one of the areas where these animals try to live. The Grumpy Old Animal and Environmental Activists Association, which continues its activities with the work of volunteer animal lovers in the region, is a community that evaluates bread, pasta, butcher's leftovers and even pretzels, bakes and distributes them to animals in the forest. I witnessed that even a crumb we left behind with 1.5 tons of food that I made and distributed for over a thousand dogs with them was enough to keep a life alive. My wish is that with the support of as many people as possible, they will have not only food, but also medicines to protect their health, and moreover, a warm home.”

“Social media is a powerful weapon in fighting violence against animals”

Pointing out that the violence against animals has increased recently, Burak Güngör pointed out that more efforts are needed to raise awareness and prevent violence. Güngör said, “We hear dozens of news every day. However, it is not enough to state that we are only reactive, it is necessary to act and mobilize our environment. At this point, I think that social media channels are a powerful weapon in fighting violence against animals, and I believe that names like us, who can reach millions of people through social media, will join hands and offer a serious support to this struggle. ”
