While many special days have been celebrated recently, Online PR Service B2Press drew attention to a perhaps unknown day, January 16 | World Nothing Day. Shedding light on the expectations of the global working population of 3.4 billion, B2Press revealed that more than half of the employees desire workplaces where they can establish a work-life balance while also demanding periods in which they can be lazy.

TURKEY — January 16 | World Nothing Day encourages people tired from the intense dynamics of daily life to distance themselves from stress, take time for themselves, and rest. This situation is commonly observed in the working population of approximately 3.4 billion, according to data released by Statista. Research conducted by Online PR Service B2Press indicates that an individual works for 40 years of their life, or one out of every four hours. According to studies by Gallup, in today's seemingly hustle-driven life, 71% of women and 58% of men reject this pace, and in 2024, they are demanding improvements in work-life balance and an increase in their well-being.

Turkey has the 2nd highest working hours country in the OECD.

According to information obtained from B2Press, finding a balance between work and daily life is one of the most challenging issues for employees. Working long hours without rest is among the primary factors that harm personal health. In fact, according to data shared by the OECD Better Life Index, 10% of individuals in OECD countries, including Turkey, work more than 50 hours a week. Mexico leads the countries with the highest proportion of people working very long hours, at 27%, followed by Turkey at 25%. However, it is noted that the more people work, the less time they have for personal care, activities, or rest, leading to decreased well-being and productivity.

Employees want free time where they are not engaged in any action.

Online PR Service's research highlights that employees' leisure time in Turkey falls below the 15-hour OECD standard. Full-time workers in the country can only allocate an average of 14.6 hours per day for personal activities, including sleep and eating. Moreover, this time frame also needs to encompass socializing, hobbies, and spending time with family and friends, while time spent in traffic further cuts into rest hours. In Turkey and globally, many employees need hours where they do nothing, not just for rest and entertainment but also to clear their minds and reduce stress.

56% of employees desire workplaces where they can achieve a work-life balance.

According to information compiled by B2Press, 56% of employees are willing to accept jobs with lower salaries in exchange for a better work-life balance globally. 62% state that if given the choice, they would consider switching jobs based on how often they have to work in the office. Those who don't have this option demand more flexible working models from their current employers. While emphasizing that having more personal time can also increase productivity, some managers in different countries complain particularly about the laziness of Generations Z and Y. However, half of the young professionals point out that feeling exhausted and disconnected at work stems from stress and anxiety.
