Çınar also commented on the performance of the Solar Energy Plant they put into operation in 2021, saying, “Our renewable energy plant has been in operation for 3 years, and by the end of 2023, it has generated 7.2 MW of electrical energy. Thanks to this energy production, we have prevented the equivalent of 202,450 trees from being removed from nature and the emission of 4,454 tons of CO2. As part of the previously announced “Equipment Renovation Project”, we are transitioning to logistics warehouses with net-zero emissions equipment powered by lithium-ion batteries and electric equipment. Furthermore, we have conducted analyses for the LED lighting conversion in our logistics warehouses and moved on to the implementation phase. In our first project at the Hadımköy Logistics Center, we aim for a 48% improvement in energy consumption due to lighting.”
She continued discussing their recently published report, saying, “In our sustainability journey, which continues with the philosophy of “Adding Value to the World” as Mars Logistics, we first published our Corporate Sustainability Manifesto. Then, drawing strength from our values, we outlined our direction with the “Mars Logistics 2020=2022 Sustainability Report”, prepared in accordance with World Economic Forum metrics and GRI standards. We disclosed our sustainable performances and sustainability goals for the future.
Çınar emphasized in her speech that sustainability will become even more crucial in the coming years. She mentioned that climate finance will open up new opportunities for collaboration between the private sector and the government. She stressed that every decision not made collectively and every step not taken together in climate finance will bring our world closer to climate disasters.
In 2024, Çınar pointed out that particularly in the European Union (EU), the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Turkey Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority (KGK) have introduced Turkey Sustainability Reporting Standards (TSRS S1 & S2). She expressed that a wider range of companies in Turkey and Europe must share sustainability information, detailing how their activities impact the environment and social issues and how they manage associated risks and opportunities. These regulations transform sustainability and reporting from voluntary effort into a standardized, accountable, audited, and enforceable requirement.”
