TURKEY - This week, the verification platform Teyit, which has spent seven years in the fight against disinformation and misleading information, has completed seven years, leaving behind dozens of reports and projects and thousands of analyses. Striving for critical thinking to be a shared value, Teyit has attempted to delve into the roots of the problem of misinformation with its writings and educational packages in this field.

The battle against misinformation, which started with fact-checking by Teyit in 2016, continues with the Pürmerak Club. The process of combating misinformation, which Teyit began by verifying suspicious claims circulating on the internet in 2016, has evolved with thousands of analyses, dozens of reports, and projects.

The Fake News Report Card, which documents deceptive information and suspicious claims during the election process, the e-newsletter prepared to prevent the spread of misinformation during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Pandemic Exists project that examined the crowd-funded book 'Black Box' by Soner Yalçın, containing numerous pieces of information or misleading claims taken out of context, the project conducted with teachers to instil critical digital literacy in children at an early age, the Discourse and Promise Check projects that examine whether politicians' statements and promises are fulfilled before the 2023 elections, and finally, in the second half of 2023, the establishment of the Pürmerak Club to increase critical literacy.

As of Teyit's 7th anniversary, Emre İlkan Saklıca, who has taken over the directorship, stated that Teyit will continue its fight against disinformation with the same principles it has upheld since the beginning and will continue to do so in the future. He said, "After performing various roles within Teyit for the past four years, now as the director, our main goal, as it has been before, is to continue the fight against disinformation while focusing on spreading critical thinking skills through the Pürmerak Club.”

Saklıca expressed gratitude to Mehmet Atakan Foça and Gülin Çavuş, whom he succeeded in management, and added, "It is impossible not to see the efforts of Atakan and Gülin to spread fact-checking from individual to society, their global contributions, and the position they have brought Teyit to today. In the new period, they will continue to share their experiences with us as members of the Advisory Board.
