Stating that Tueky’s country-code domain extension “.TR” was previously allocated in the second level domain name extension structure, such as “.COM.TR” and “.NET.TR”, but now it is open for registration at the first level. Over the years, many countries, most recently the United Kingdom (.UK), have gradually allowed direct second-level domain name registrations. With many countries, such as the UK, allowing direct use of domains with country extensions, the number of domains with country extensions worldwide reached 272 million. As of September 14, Turkey has become one of the countries following this trend. Previous domain name registrations in Turkey It was only possible at the second level under extensions such as “.COM.TR”, “.NET.TR” or “.ORG.TR.”. Registering domain names directly under “.TR” will now be possible, provided the registration requirements are met.

After the undocumented “.COM.TR”, now the “.TR” era begins

“.COM.TR” domains, which we can call "proof" that companies in Turkey have a "corporate structure", were opened for registration last year without documentation.

Transition to “.TR” will be achieved in 3 stages

The “.TR” domain name registration process starts on September 14, 2023, with public institutions. Public organizations will be able to directly apply for “.TR” extension for their existing GOV.TR, EDU.TR, TSK.TR, BEL.TR, POL.TR, K12.TR domain names that they have previously registered, free of charge for 1 year. The domain name in “.TR” structure will be created automatically with the existing domain information if the domain address is the same: 1. GOV.TR, 2. EDU.TR, 3. TSK.TR, 4. BEL.TR, 5. POL.TR, 6. K12.TR extensions will be given priority in numerical order.

Between 14 October 2023 and 14 November 2023, associations, foundations and professional organizations registered with ORG.TR will be able to register for the “.TR” domain. However, these organizations that want to register will need to send the necessary documents for registration. The organizations that submit documents will only be allocated to parties with the necessary qualifications.

After this period, “A.COM.TR”, “A.NET.TR”, “A.GEN.TR”, “A.BIZ.TR”, “A.TV.TR”, “A.NAME.TR” , "A.AV.TR", "A.WEB.TR", "A.İNFO.TR" and other extension owners will start the “.TR” domain registration period.
