While a dry summer is left behind for both the world and Turkey, research indicates that more than 30% of Turkey will be classified as arid or semi-arid by the end of this century. While it is stated that Central and Southeastern Anatolia and the Eastern Mediterranean will be most affected by this negative situation, manufacturers operating in the region support the fight against the climate crisis by establishing solar power plants.

TURKEY — As Turkey leaves behind a dry summer, studies on the effects of the climate crisis point to a more pessimistic scenario for the future. According to the research titled "Climate Model Projections of Drought Patterns in Turkey”, published by the British Royal Meteorological Society RMetS, it is predicted that arid climate conditions will increase in Turkey after 2041.

The study states that if the scenario in which carbon dioxide emissions double and average temperatures rise to 3.6 degrees by the end of the century occurs, more than 30% of our country will be classified as arid or semi-arid. At the same time, it is emphasized that the regions that will be most affected by drought will be Central and Southeastern Anatolia and the Eastern Mediterranean, institutions operating in these regions are taking action to build a sustainable future. Finally, Anavarza Bal announced that it has established a solar power plant (SPP) in its facility in Kozan, Adana. In this way, the company will reduce its carbon footprint and support the fight against the climate crisis while reducing energy costs and increasing its profitability.

Anavarza Bal General Manager Can Sezen made the following statement on the subject, “Solar energy is the most important clean energy source for the world and is the guarantee of a sustainable future. While electricity is produced through solar power plants, nature is not harmed under any circumstances, and no greenhouse gases are released. Therefore, these power plants have a very important share in the fight against the climate crisis. We established a solar power plant with 400 kilowatts (kW) power and a peak capacity of 501 kilowatts (kW) in our facility in Adana. With our solar power plant covering an area of 2,800 square meters, we will help alleviate the burden of nature by producing an average of 56 thousand kilowatts of energy per month and 650 to 700 thousand kilowatts per year.”

“There is no need for extra space to establish a solar power plant”

Stating that solar energy reduces dependence on fossil fuels and prevents air pollution, Can Sezen said, “Solar power plants are actually not only an energy alternative, but also an investment tool. Because the electricity obtained from here reduces expense items and, at the same time, paves the way for resources to be utilized in different areas. So much so that the costs incurred in the first stage of the power plant installation are not higher than before, and a return on this investment can be obtained quickly. For example, while the current investment cost of the solar power plant we have established is 12 million Turkish Lira, we aim to make a profit in all aspects in the near future.”

Underlining that no special area is required for installing solar power plants, Anavarza Bal General Manager Can Sezen concluded his words, “The solar power plant can be installed on the roofs and start producing electricity immediately. No emissions are produced during the process, and the release of carbon dioxide gas that occurs in standard business processes is prevented. As Anavarza Bal, while we contribute to the fight against the climate crisis with the power plant we have just established, we also encourage our stakeholders to take responsibility by solving the drought problem on a corporate scale. We also strengthen our business processes and support innovation.
