The "2023 Global Startup Ecosystems Report" prepared by Startup Genome, which conducts global entrepreneurship research, has been published. According to the published report, the global economic recession has also reduced investments in technology startups. However, the report also mentions the positive effects of this recession and points out that investing in startups is a very suitable opportunity period.

Istanbul ranks 1st

TURKEY - In city-based evaluations, Istanbul stands out as one of the most successful cities in the world in terms of entrepreneurship and innovation. In the "Strong Early Stage Ecosystems" list, Istanbul comes first, Barcelona is second, Estonia is third, Madrid is fourth, and Dubai is fifth. It is particularly emphasized in the report that there have been investments in nearly 600 early-stage startups in Istanbul in the last year. It is also noted that Dream Games' raising $50 million in the Series A round in 2021 and Ace Games' raising $33 million in early-stage financing in 2022 constitute a large part of the gaming industry's contribution to Istanbul's success. In addition, Istanbul managed to be among the top 35 global ecosystems and the top 10 European ecosystems with its new ventures in the "Funding" category, where early-stage funding and investor activity is measured.

Turkey continues to attract foreign investors

Ahmet Sefa Bir, one of the founders of the first investment network platform that brings together entrepreneurs and investors in the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem, made the following evaluation of the results of the report:

“Entrepreneurship is developing rapidly in many cities of Turkey, especially in Istanbul. The number of qualified startups is increasing and the number of investors who want to invest in technology startups is increasing rapidly. In addition, due to the success of Turkish entrepreneurs, foreign investors from many countries register as members of platforms like ours and submit their investment requests to Turkish entrepreneurs. In this respect, Turkey, and especially Istanbul, is a favourite of foreign investors. We predict that this acceleration will continue in 2024.”

Turkey's promising initiatives will be determined

The "Promising Startups" Competition, held annually to help local and foreign investors find startups to invest in, is waiting for its participants. Participants can apply to the competition from all regions of Turkey and will have the opportunity to come together with Turkey's leading brand names.
In 2023, unlike previous years, not only Promising Startups but also startup-friendly institutions and managers will be determined. Additionally, special Sustainability Awards will be given to institutions and managers.

In this year's Promising Competition, entrepreneurs will compete in 15 different categories and have the opportunity to promote their ventures. Each category will have its own special award, and the best initiatives will be determined by jury evaluation. Applications for the competition will continue until September 30.
The award ceremony will be in December 2023

The award ceremony of the competition will be held at the Startup Investment Summit to be held in December. The winning ventures in the competition will present to leading investors in the investment world and meet with investors in one-on-one meetings.
