While Turkey's food and beverage sector continues to grow rapidly despite economic fluctuations, the share of coffee shops in the sector has reached 15%, according to the latest research by Dealer.
TURKEY — While the growth momentum of the food and beverage industry in our country increased, coffee shops became the star of the market. According to the latest research conducted by Dealer, a rental and retail services consultancy company, food, beverage and tourism expenditures in Turkey exceed 35 billion dollars, while 5.2 billion dollars of this is obtained from coffee shops. It is reported that coffee shops have increased their market share to 15%.
Noting that restaurant preferences have changed and the popularity of coffee shops has increased with the effect of the decrease in purchasing power of consumers recently, Dealer Founder Yahya Pulat said, “Turkey's food and beverage market continues its growth trend despite the economic fluctuations. Our research shows that the industry is beginning to reshape itself and turn to lucrative areas. Despite the contractions in many areas, from the number of personnel to menu restrictions, industry players are developing new strategies to turn these difficulties into opportunities.
Emphasizing that the reason for the increase in the popularity of coffee shops among young people is that these places respond to social needs, Yahya Pulat said, "While coffee shops have turned into areas where young people can socialize, these developments have triggered the proliferation of branded coffee shops and entrepreneurs so much so that there are currently 37 chain brands, 2,536 branches in our country. "While the top 10 brands control 70% of the market, there are also thousands of boutique brands in the sector. There are already nearly 2,500 investors in coffee shop startups. However, these startups can be left unfinished due to socio-economic pressures," he said.
Dealer Founder Yahya Pulat, who stated that many of the coffee startups failed, said that the franchising opportunity of big brands is an opportunity for entrepreneurs and added: “For entrepreneurs, the way to make a secure income is to join the franchise network of reputable brands. However, some criteria must be taken into account in order to enter under the umbrella of a franchise. It is necessary to get support from professionals for the risks and difficulties that may be encountered in the leasing, management, inspection, R&D processes. We also serve two target groups in the franchise ecosystem.”
“We have been witnessing the growth of the retail industry for 26 years. We transform the franchise system into comfortable and efficient business areas for both brands and entrepreneurs. We work to develop the right strategies to support the growth of brands and entrepreneurs. Our first service group is franchisors; the other is those who want to own a brand. We enable our clients to be successful by optimizing their business models by considering their demands and goals. If there is a business model that will not work in the market, we identify it and make it work.”
