TURKEY — 2023 - With almost a month before the first school bell of the 2024 school year rings, many parents are turning to extracurricular activities to prepare their children for the future better. Through activities outside the school curriculum, parents enable their children to develop skills that will help them in their future careers and lives. Novakid, an online language school that offers English lessons to children between the ages of 4 and 12, examined the methods preferred by parents in Turkey for their children's education, their course choices and expenditures. While 55.3% of the participants stated that they did not encounter any financial difficulties or restrictions while enrolling their children in an out-of-school activity, 38.1% said that they were satisfied with these activities.
According to the survey conducted by Novakid with the participation of more than 600 parents with children aged 4-12, it is observed that families in Turkey enrol their children in foreign language courses the most. 53% of parents choose sports, and 32.9% choose music courses. According to the survey, 42% of the participants use paid education applications in 2022, while 37.3% of them prefer free programs.
With English becoming a global language, parents are turning to these courses to invest in their children's future. According to Novakid's survey, 59.1% of parents in Turkey are interested in English courses as an out-of-school education activity. 31.5% of parents whose children attend a face-to-face English school allocate a monthly average of less than 2000 TL for this. It is observed that parents who prefer online English courses mostly spend less. 39.9% of these parents say that their total expenditure is less than 2000 TL.
Stating that online English courses are both more economical and more comfortable than face-to-face courses, Novakid CEO Max Azarov said, “As technology develops and becomes widespread, demand for online courses is also increasing. Because in online courses, children can learn comfortably at home while at the same time, they can shape the curriculum according to themselves. In our survey, we see that parents now prefer this method, especially in English schools. We also offer English lessons on our interactive platform with our staff of more than 2,700 experienced and qualified teachers.”
“With our English as a Second Language (ESL) education program, we help children worldwide learn English in a fun way using gamification and virtual reality technologies. Taking into account the individual interests and ages of our students, we ensure that they successfully complete the training program that we have created with components such as more than 1,500 metrics, A/B tests and data.”
