TURKEY - Thousands of students who took the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) started to make future plans after the results were announced on July 20. Izmir-based Eraslan School, which places its students in the top 10% of Turkey in YKS and sends many students to international schools, draws attention to the impact of high school education on professional life. Eraslan School High School Principal Bahar Erdem evaluated that “High school life is not only an academic process that prepares students for university but also a process that gives them the skills that will make them stand out in their professional life”. Stating that a versatile, personal-needs education in high school creates solid foundations for students, Erdem said, “We prepare our students for both national and international schools with a bilingual and accredited education program. While our graduates can be placed in the top 10% of Turkey in the medical, dentistry, engineering and law departments of prestigious universities, many of our graduates receive scholarship admissions from the schools they apply to study abroad.
Erdem said, “We support our education program with elective courses such as entrepreneurship, international relations, economics, artificial intelligence, psychology, philosophy, and art history. In this way, we pave the way for our students to acquire not only academic success but also high-level intellectual equipment that will make a difference in the business world. We support all these processes with foreign exchange programs and summer schools, and we offer the Advanced Placement (AP) program to students who want to go one step further academically, where they can get university credits.
Stating that they update their education programs according to the characteristics of the new generation so that students can realize their potential at the highest level, Erdem said, “We draw a personalized roadmap for our students throughout high school. We follow them closely with our Individual (BAS) and General Assessment (GDS) systems and provide a versatile and internationally valid training program where they can reveal their skills. Our students get acquainted with the Academic Writing program we prepared in cooperation with American universities the year they start high school; they can take elective courses such as entrepreneurship, psychology, economics and artificial intelligence, they can get university credits with the Advanced Placement program, and they develop their competitive skills at the highest level with the national and international competitions they participate in. In addition, they participate in a fast-paced support program in preparation for national exams and can prepare an optional future for themselves both at home and abroad.
Erdem stated that 18% of their students were placed in medical schools, 20% in dentistry, 80% in engineering, and 45% in law departments in the university entrance exam (YKS). He also mentioned that students who received an education at Eraslan were easily accepted into universities abroad. "Currently, our students are on their way to study at some of the world's top 500 universities in fields such as business, political science, piloting, and mechatronics engineering, with some of them receiving full scholarships, primarily in the United States, Italy, and Hungary," he concluded.
