The importance of knowing English increases every day, and collaborations in our country enable hundreds of children to learn English at an early age. Most recently, the learning games company Novakid completed the first phase of the English group lessons project it carried out with the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation. While students develop their English skills in classes of 5, the satisfaction rate of parents reached 94.4% at the end of the program.

TURKEY - In today's globalized world where geographical boundaries are disappearing, the importance of speaking English is increasing day by day. Our country is making collaborations in this regard, enabling hundreds of children to learn English from an early age. Novakid, a learning games company, recently completed the first stage of its online English group lessons project carried out with the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation. 361 fifth-grade students studying at Zehra Nurhan Kocabıyık Middle School in Avcılar, Istanbul, developed their English speaking and writing skills with group lessons of 5. Emboldened by this success, Novakid has accelerated its work and announced that it could increase the number of participants to a thousand to reach more students with English education.

"We have made technology accessible to facilitate education"

Maxim Azarov, CEO of Novakid, shared his thoughts: "This project is a great example of how technology can be used to make education more accessible for everyone. We are very excited to be able to offer these students the opportunity to learn English in a fun and engaging way." Novakid English Teacher Hatice Yılmaz added, "My students who were afraid to speak have begun to gain confidence. They can express themselves more comfortably. My students, who were very good on paper but silent in class, have started to be more active. They mentioned that they used translations in their lessons, but they started to reduce this."

Hakan Akçimen, the Director of Education and Financial Affairs of the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation, said, “English education given in public schools today can remain ineffective due to many reasons such as crowded classrooms and insufficient class hours to deal with each student individually. The competence to speak is overlooked or cannot be developed due to lack of resources because of an exam-focused understanding. Even if children perform well on paper, they may not be able to answer even very simple questions in English verbally. As the Borusan Kocabıyık Foundation, which is aware of the importance of knowing English and being able to actively use the language, we wanted to support the students who graduated from our schools to speak English well in addition to academic success.”

The satisfaction rate of parents reached 94.4%

Novakid, which aims to adjust the curriculum according to the English knowledge of the students in each group in the next phase of the program, also evaluated the outputs of the first stage of education with a survey conducted with teachers and parents. According to the feedback received from the parents, at the end of the 9-week process, the satisfaction rate reached 94.4%, and 79.8% of them stated that they saw great progress in their children's English speaking skills. Teachers also reported that their students made significant improvements in terms of language knowledge, speaking, and understanding.
