TURKEY - While it is recorded that 22% of the member states of the United Nations (UN) make pre-school education compulsory, 45% offer these programs free of charge for at least 1 year and continue their efforts to make preschool education accessible. With the studies carried out in our country, the rate of participation in pre-school education is increasing daily. Because it is known that children who receive pre-school education become more open to development in many ways; At the same time, scientific studies show that children who receive pre-school education are more successful in their education life than those who do not. While many parents are looking for qualified institutions for their children's preschool education, Gülsüm Şentürk Yörük, the Founder and Education Manager of Flying Balloon Kindergartens, explains the issues that parents should pay attention to.
Pointing out that pre-school education accelerates the development process of children, Yörük evaluated the subject with the following words: “Pre-school education forms the basis of the development of the individual. Because it coincides with the age range in which social, emotional, psychomotor, mental and language developments are largely completed, many parents, who are aware of this situation, take care in choosing a kindergarten, but may experience indecision on some issues.”
“It is essential that the buildings where the training is carried out comply with the earthquake regulations and provide security”
Gülsüm Şentürk Yörük said that the first of the criteria that parents should consider when choosing an educational institution is the suitability of the physical conditions of the school, and said, “The school should have taken security measures against various scenarios such as natural disasters and fire. It is also critical that the building complies with the earthquake regulations.”
Yörük stated that one of the most important topics is the education and training programs prepared to support the development of children in a multi-faceted manner, and said, “These programs should also be supported by foreign language education, sports and artistic activities, and in order to effectively monitor the development of children in the pre-school education period by the teachers, the classrooms should be crowded. should not exist. Accordingly, parents should also pay attention to the number of students in the class when choosing a kindergarten.
Underlining that there should be a psychological counselling and guidance service in a kindergarten, Yörük said, “While following the development of children and regularly informing the parents is an important step in the process, Institutions should also show sensitivity in issues such as the nutrition of the child. For this, it is necessary to implement programs that will encourage a healthy and balanced diet prepared by experts. All these requirements can be easily fulfilled if there are enough qualified specialists and support personnel in kindergartens.
Gülsüm Şentürk Yörük stated that pre-school education institutions have a great responsibility to identify and understand the needs of children in a world that is constantly developing and changing. set a target. The participation, which is predicted as 90% for the world, is calculated as close to 100% for the region including our country. We cooperate for the future of our children by creating a corporate culture structure that can adapt and direct change and development, and by regularly training our parents and teachers.”
