Global economic conditions and transforming geopolitical balances have changed strategic priorities for companies. While it was seen that one of the two CEOs took measures to reduce costs, the first stop of companies that wanted to control their costs was the purchasing process.

TURKEY - Successive developments such as the global epidemic, supply chain disruptions, labor problems, and war in the last three years have also changed the strategic priorities of businesses. As economic fluctuations narrowed the leeway of many businesses, company leaders focused on reducing costs. The 2023 results of the CEO Survey conducted by global consulting firm PwC showed that 40% of leaders think their company will not be economically sustainable in 10 years if they continue with the current strategy. The report found that one out of every 2 leaders (52%) took measures to reduce operating costs to combat economic difficulties and volatility.

Digita Teknoloji General Coordinator Can Pulat Öğün shared his evaluations on the subject and said, “The business world has seen that profitability is not possible only by increasing sales in the last 3 years. Companies of all sizes are focused on improving their existing processes on a cost and efficiency basis.”

The priority of purchasing professionals is cost control

According to estimates released by consulting firm EY, an estimated 50% to 75% of the costs of doing business were affected by the supply chain and purchasing processes. Cost control took first place among the 2023 priorities of purchasing professionals, who have been working hard for three years. Input and labor cost increases seen in every sector have turned purchasing and supply chain processes into a strategic problem for businesses.
Reminding that world-famous companies announced that they will make cost cuts in their latest financial results, Can Pulat Öğün said, “The plans announced by many companies such as Stellantis, Tesla, Disney, Volkswagen, Ford for 2023 confirm the trend in PwC research. Leaders are reviewing all their processes in order to make their organizations more resilient against the uncertainties of the coming period.”

Working to raise awareness of cost control

Stating that supplier relations have gained importance since the beginning of the global epidemic and the impact of purchasing processes on business profitability is better understood, Can Pulat Öğün said, “Cost control starts with purchasing, regardless of sector or scale. When we talk about improving purchasing processes, we also need to talk about digitalization. Digitalization and innovation are of key importance in terms of enabling SMEs to transition to cost control and process management cultures at global standards, and, thus to recover their losses, primarily in our country and then in the world. As Digita Teknoloji, a software and consultancy company serving with offices in Ankara and Istanbul for more than 18 years, I can say that we are passionately dedicated to this subject. We focus on raising awareness about cost control in businesses and developing toolkits to achieve these goals. We believe that if we provide a sufficient vision for cost control in this period when sustainable profitability is critical for every business and economic turmoil prevails; we can be instrumental in new growth stories as a country and even globally.”

Purchasing processes are designed in 7 minutes

Digital Technology General Coordinator Can Pulat Öğün, who underlined the need to make the awareness process on cost control permanent with technology suitable for this understanding, said, “YoneTeam, which aims to bring back the losses to businesses with the power of technology by bringing together the end-to-end processes from demand to delivery, purchasing and supply in a single software. We have developed our software for this purpose. The purchasing software YoneTeam, which allows all stages of the purchasing processes to be completed in 7 minutes from end to end, can save 23% of the cost and 6 hours of time every day for businesses.

Emphasizing that utilizing technology solutions focused on efficiency is a prerequisite for exiting unscathed from changing business conditions, Can Pulat Öğün concluded his evaluations with the following statements: “In order to achieve this, we believe in the importance of working with technology business partners who do not only see companies as customers but who embrace their problems and needs. At this point, in addition, to cost control, with our SmartRise product family, we offer ready-to-use solutions that touch many business processes, from budget management to document and process management, from site management to test and commissioning software, from machine supply to warehouse stock and shipment management, with the same approach.”
