TECHNOLOGY

Artificial intelligence technologies, which shine with ChatGPT and prove their potential at every scale, have opened new doors to cyber attackers. The cyber security ecosystem thinks that artificial intelligence can overcome the cybercriminals that accelerate the attack processes with artificial intelligence and gain the ability to organize more complex attacks.

TURKEY - ChatGPT, one of the latest products of artificial intelligence, which broke a record by exceeding 1 million users in a number of days, once again revealed the potential of developing technologies. While emerging technologies such as rapid digitalization and artificial intelligence strengthened the hand of cyber attackers, they also increased concerns about cyber security. On the other hand, the business world has started to adopt artificial intelligence to reduce cyber risks and be more resilient against threats. A study conducted by Acumen Research predicted that the market for artificial intelligence (AI)-based cybersecurity products, which was $14.9 billion in 2021, will reach $133.8 billion by 2030.

Ebubekir Buber, Artificial Intelligence Team Leader of DNSSense, which offers DNS security solutions at global standards, shared the following assessment on the subject, “There are two sides of the coin in cyber security and artificial intelligence. On the one hand, there are cyber-attackers who can launch more sophisticated attacks using new technologies such as artificial intelligence. On the other hand, companies that think that artificial intelligence-based cyber security solutions can be countered against cyber threats fed by artificial intelligence are positioned.”

9 out of 10 businesses will adopt AI in cybersecurity

In IBM's Artificial Intelligence and Automation for Cyber Security report, it was seen that 93% of companies worldwide are considering using artificial intelligence in their cyber security processes in the future. Companies that performed best in using artificial intelligence in cybersecurity increased their return on investment by 40% while reducing data breach costs by at least 18%.

Stating that the data released in the last months of 2022 show that the cost of global cyber security breaches and cybercrime has reached 1 trillion dollars annually, Ebubekir Buber said, “This figure corresponds to 1% of the global gross domestic product. Businesses are rapidly digitizing, with more devices connected to the corporate network being used at each layer. As the remote working approach becomes more widespread, the risks arising from internal threats are also increasing. Cyber-attackers' adoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence makes threats unpredictable with human power, making businesses vulnerable in every way. In order to establish a strong cyber security infrastructure in this environment, it is necessary to attach importance to DNS security at the bottom of the application layer, in other words, at the center of corporate networks, and to turn to artificial intelligence-supported systems that detect malicious traffic in networks.

240,000 malicious domains detected daily

DNSSense Artificial Intelligence Team Leader Ebubekir Buber, referring to the data in the report titled “Things of the Internet” they published, said, “The data we receive from Cyber X-Ray, our artificial intelligence-supported domain classification solution that holds the data of the entire Internet, will be released every day in the second half of 2022. showed that an average of 240 thousand malicious domains were registered per day. Cyber attackers use artificial intelligence-based domain creation algorithms (DGA) to evade security measures and launch hard-to-detect attacks. This situation requires continuous monitoring of network traffic, protection of all network users at the DNS level, and notification and triggering of other security solutions before attacks occur. The technologies we have developed as DNSSense protect businesses at the DNS layer with the power and speed of artificial intelligence.”

“We offer end-to-end visibility into DNS security”

Stating that they have a team that carries out academic studies on the use of high technologies such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and machine learning in cyber security, Ebubekir Buber concluded his evaluations with the following words, “Cyber X-Ray, which we developed as DNSSense, securely connects millions of users to the internet in 7 countries, is also positioned as a data source for other solutions in our portfolio. While DNSEye, which constantly monitors corporate network traffic, offers businesses end-to-end visibility into DNS security, our cloud-based protection solution DNSDome undertakes the task of protecting all users and devices using a network from harmful content on the internet. While our solutions reduce the burden of cybersecurity teams, they also contribute to the effectiveness of different security solutions.”
