TURKEY - Cloud technologies, which enable the digital transformation of business processes of enterprises, have become a standard in every industry. Research by Flexera found that four out of five businesses are adopting a hybrid cloud approach that encompasses private and public cloud platforms. The definition of the cloud as the new way of doing business for industries has made cloud platforms the new target of cyber attackers. In IBM's report titled The Cost of Data Breach 2022, it was stated that almost half (45%) of data breaches occurred on cloud platforms, and it was emphasized that the zero trust approach was effective in reducing the costs caused by the breach. The report revealed that those who do not use the zero-trust approach to cybersecurity face an average of $1 million in additional costs.

Berqnet General Manager Hakan Hintoğlu commented, “Many sensitive data of businesses that adopt the hybrid cloud approach are stored in data centers in different parts of the world. Ensuring security in such complex network architectures is possible with a state-of-the-art security approach that never trusts users and devices requesting access to the network and always validates these demands, that is, with zero confidence.

Only 41% of businesses use the "zero trust" approach

The report revealed that the rate of enterprises adopting the zero trust approach in cyber security was limited to 41%. While it was noted that three out of five businesses did not use this new approach, it was estimated that businesses maturing in this area by starting to use the zero trust architecture could reduce their data breach costs by more than $1.5 million. Stating that the costs of data breaches on public cloud platforms can exceed $5 million today, Hakan Hintoglu said, “Businesses that adopt new security approaches using emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, instead of accepting that data breaches are a reality of the age, can both reduce costs and protect their reputations. The zero trust solution we developed as Berqnet analyzes the connection demands for the network behaviorally and contextually with the power of artificial intelligence. Network administrators can thus easily detect abnormal behavior in the network and gain actionable insights with an intelligent cybersecurity architecture that monitors the network 24/7.”

“It is possible to detect violations 28 days earlier with artificial intelligence”

Emphasizing that an era in which cloud platforms are adopted to such an extent and remote working becomes permanent requires reviewing the precautions and actions against cyber threats, Berqnet General Manager Hakan Hintoğlu concluded: “It shows that they can detect and control 28 days earlier than non-adopters. Early intervention means at least $3 million in cost savings. Berqnet's zero trust solution (ZTNA) makes it possible to create context-based logical access boundaries as well as context-based security policies and user identity. On the other hand, thanks to partial access definitions, which user can access which data and to what extent can be managed through an intuitive and useful interface. As all access requests of users are queried at identity and context level each time, in-network threats that cybersecurity teams have difficulty in detecting can also be discovered. As Berqnet, we are working for businesses that have not yet discovered the advantages of the zero trust approach, to adopt this approach as soon as possible.”
