ISTANBUL (TR) - Celebrating the 20th anniversary of its establishment with activities themed "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow", Istanbul Freelance Architects Association (IstanbulSMD) will present the exhibition "Scarpa Dialogues" focusing on Carlo Scarpa, one of the important modern architects of the 20th  century, at Galeri Işık Teşvikiye on October 6-21. The exhibition, whose academic content was prepared by Professor Jale Erzen, will be held under the sponsorship of Seranit and with the support of the Italian Cultural Center and can be visited every day from 10:00 to 20:00 except Sunday. The productions of creators from Turkey and Italy, who have research and studies on Scarpa, in different formats will be presented under the curatorship of architect, researcher and writer Emiliano Bugatti, with photographs by Cemal Emden and exhibition design by Onur Teke.

Special section from Venice to two workshops

In the "Scarpa Dialogues" exhibition, Emre Arolat, Sevince Bayrak, Hera Büyüktaşçıyan, Ahmet Doğu İpek, Kerem Erginoğlu, Matteo Casari, Luca Compri, Oral Göktaş, Giuseppe Gurrieri, Ersen Gürsel, Aykut Köksal, Koray Malhan, Andrea Morana, Salvatore Oddo, Gianluca 19 architects and artists from Italy and Turkey, including Peluffo, Luana Rao, Han Tümertekin, Alfredo Vanotti, Maria Chiara Zarabini take part as participants. Emiliano Bugatti was the curator and editor of the exhibition, which focused on 17 Scarpa projects selected by them. In the project, creative names who have a dialogue with the photographs of IstanbulSMD member Cemal Emden develop the dialogue with various texts or graphic works.

Cemal Emden's photographs showcase Scarpa's architectural sophistication

Scarpa's architecture, or rather art, often transcends the disciplinary boundaries of architecture to open up avenues for broader reading and interpretation. Capturing and adding value to the aesthetic quality and richness of his works, Cemal Emden's versatile approach to photography, his admiration and love for architecture, offers unique images to showcase Scarpa's architectural sophistication. A special section is devoted to the two ateliers still active in Venice today, working with Carlo Scarpa, producing many of the surprising details of their work.

Scarpa's dialogues

This feature of Carlo Scarpa, who is known for the bold dialogues he creates between his own works and existing structures, forms the conceptual focus of the exhibition as well as the whole project. A similarly powerful dialogue stands out between the exhibited works and the exhibition spaces he designed, and offers a different perspective to the work of art. Creating lively dialogues with the masters he works with, Scarpa's ideas are accepted as a challenge to renew and improve craft traditions. On the other hand, he imagines a rich and charged dialogue between man and space, in which the pieces he designs propose ways to explore memories outside of time.
