ISTANBUL (TR) - Koruncuk Foundation initiated a communication study to contribute to the improvement of the current return to family practice of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, with the "We Strengthen the Child by Supporting the Family" Project, which it carries out within the scope of the Civil Society Support Program - III. He developed suggestions for improving the process with the representatives of non-governmental organizations working in this field, so that the demands for a more systematic, healthy and follow-up implementation of the return to family practice can be included in the relevant policies.
The Ministry of Family and Social Services has been implementing a return to family practice since 2005 in order to expand family-based care services for children under protection and to reunite children in institutional care with their biological families.
Koruncuk Foundation, non-governmental organizations and experts, which have been serving for years within the Child Protection System, came together to create the "We Empower the Child by Supporting the Family" Project Communication Campaign and carried out a series of studies. The process that started with the Focus Group Meeting held in October last year; “We Empower the Child by Supporting the Family” Project continued with two workshops to build the communication campaign discourses and strategy. During the studies, a Psychosocial Support Model Training package compatible with the project was prepared and trainings were organized for professionals working in the field. These activities contributed to the detailed experience sharing process of the stakeholders prior to the campaign.
The aim of the Koruncuk Foundation's Communication Campaign of the We Empower the Child by Supporting the Family Project; disseminating the discourses about the project through the social media channels of the Koruncuk Foundation and non-governmental organizations supporting the project, raising awareness among the public, meeting with public institutions on a common ground, and improving the Return to Family System for the best interests of the child.
Görkem Demirdöğer, Coordinator of Psychosocial Support Projects of Koruncuk Foundation, one of the spokespersons of the campaign: “We support the right of every child to live with their family, and we find the family support models of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies valuable in terms of child welfare. However, we would like to remind you that family reunification processes are very sensitive especially for children who have been separated from their biological families for a certain period of time, and intervention programs that do not target family relationships and social risk factors beyond economic difficulties will be insufficient. The implementation of long-term and detailed preventive programs aimed at strengthening families, and the adoption of a process management model that focuses on multidisciplinary work will contribute to the system becoming stronger.
