ISTANBUL (TR) - The astronomical rent increases in the last 1 year have benefited the storage companies. While the rents increased by nearly 100% especially in metropolitan cities, the actual situation benefited the companies providing household goods storage services and their business volumes grew.
Rent increases continue to increase uncontrollably across Turkey. Rents are increasing gradually due to the beginning of the return to the metropolitan areas, the opening of schools, and the mobility of finding a home, especially among university students.
As the number of square meters or rooms in the houses increases, the rental prices also increase. Therefore, especially in recent years, the demand for small houses has increased in this sense. But what to do with the excess items has also become a separate problem. The storage industry comes to the rescue of those who use their house less or do not want to pay more rent while the rents have gone up.
Göztepe Transport and Storage CEO Ulaş Gümüşoğlu made evaluations on the subject:
“The main reasons for the increase in rent increases in our opinion are; The increase in the urban transformation process this year is that the weddings were postponed due to the pandemic last year, the university students who returned to their hometowns due to online education came back to the metropolitan cities, and the building stock has melted as a result of the decrease in construction investments due to the epidemic. As such, while house rents were increasing, those who wanted to save money by putting their second homes in the big cities in storage, because the houses got smaller or who wanted to save money by buying storage services instead of paying more rent, almost attacked the storage companies.”
Gümüşoğlu continued his words as follows, “Most of the time, we rent an extra room for the items in our house that we cannot throw away. At best, this means incurring an additional cost of between 1,000 and 2,000 liras per month for a city like Istanbul. Instead, by paying a small amount, our customers have the opportunity to create an additional room in their home and rent a storage room from our storage facilities. Sometimes they keep hobby materials, sometimes objects of high sentimental value, left over from their grandmother, but in the end, they save themselves. Of course, when those who prefer to live in their summer houses due to urban transformation and companies in need of archival storage are added, the volume increases. This is how our industry continues to grow because we create very economic opportunities for our warehouse users.”
