The chemical industry, which turned the pandemic into an opportunity with its export attack, set its sights on increasing its share in Germany, the biggest export market of Turkey. Onay Engineering, which provides consultancy services to companies in Turkey on EU chemical legislation, announced that they are a member of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry and that they will focus on improving the trade volume between the two countries.

ISTANBUL (TR) - Ranking 2nd among Turkey's exporting sectors, chemistry continues to increase its cross-border performance. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the sector reached an export volume of 2 billion 46 million dollars with an increase of more than 49% compared to the same period of the previous year. The sector's exports to Germany, which ranks first among the countries to which Turkey exports the most, also drew attention. Chemical exports to the country witnessed an increase of approximately 36% in the first 8 months of 2021 compared to the same period of the previous year. In August alone, the export volume exceeding 4 billion 300 thousand dollars was recorded with an increase of 16.6% compared to the same month of the previous year. Kutlu Altun, General Manager of Onay Engineering, who provides consultancy on European Union chemistry legislation, announced that they are members of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry and that they will focus on improving the trade volume between the two countries.

Pointing out that Germany is one of the strategic markets for the chemical industry, Altun said, “The way for companies to be more effective in this market is to fulfill the procedures implemented within the framework of EU legislation. At this point, as Onay Engineering, we aim to bring a new perspective to the export activities of companies with our membership in the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry.” Having a strategic cooperation agreement with Germany's largest service provider DEKRA GmBH, Onay Mühendislik will expand the trade volume between the two countries by providing consultancy services to exporting companies within the framework of EU legislation.

Pointing out that the chemical industry has increased its target in 2021 based on the performance it achieved in 2020, Altun said, “Registration, Evaluation of Chemicals implemented in Turkey within the scope of EU REACH compliance,registration of chemicals within the framework of the Regulation on Authorization and Restriction (KKDIK Regulation) will bring a new transformation for companies. Companies that can complete this transformation will gain a great power in exports. As Onay Engineering, thanks to our strategic cooperation with Germany's largest service provider DEKRA GmBH, we will support our customers to comply with the regulations in the EU, Russia and China marketers and have a greater say in international trade.”

Companies must ensure the safe use of chemicals

Pointing out that the KKDIK Regulation aims to protect human health and the environment at the highest level from the negative effects of chemicals, Altun said, “The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization will manage the registration, evaluation, permit and restriction processes of chemical substances in accordance with the provisions of the KKDIK Regulation. According to the regulation, companies with manufacturer and exporter identity have to ensure the safe use of chemicals. They will be able to elect representatives to fulfill these obligations. We will represent companies with the strategic cooperation we have established with DEKRA GmBH”.
