ISTANBUL (TR) - Personal data protection practices in the field of health and insurance and the problems encountered were examined in cooperation with the Koru Health Group, the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK), the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and sector representatives. The security of personal data in the field of health was evaluated at the "Insurance Agencies Health Insurance Evaluation Workshop" held at Bolu Koru Hotels.

“The aim is not to cause grievances”

Noting that a new concept, "Data Security", has been added to patient satisfaction and patient safety today, Prof. Dr. Hasan Biri said, "It is seen as a necessity to establish a healthy system in order to position data security in the right place in the health and insurance sector and to prevent unjust treatment at this point.”

Emphasizing that the solution-oriented approach of the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) provides a healthy working environment in all sectors without allowing the problems to deepen, Prof. Dr. Biri stated that data security is as important a process as patient safety.
Prof. Dr. Biri said that the workshop, attended by KVKK, TOBB and sector representatives, discussed what insurance and hospitals can or should do about “security of personal data”.

Mehmet Özgür Yılmaz, Member of the TOBB Insurance Agencies Executive Committee, also gave information about the number of agencies in the sector and their employees in his presentation at the workshop. Stating that there are currently around 16,600 insurance agencies in Turkey, Yılmaz said, “6,700 of them are real person agencies and 9,900 are legal person agencies. In 2008 it was just the opposite. This means that at this point, agencies are taking serious steps. In general data, we have a total of 40,740 employees. There are around 20 thousand technical employees.”

The workshop, which was attended by KVKK, TOBB, insurance agents and Koru Health Group, ended with an evaluation meeting.
