The pandemic has forced not only people but also pets to change. Social isolation caused some behavioral disorders in animals and psychological problems such as separation anxiety. As these wounds begin to heal with the gradual normalization, the social media platform PetPaw, developed specifically for pets, will help animals find a mate or playmate, while opening up space for their owners to have an animal-loving social environment.

İSTANBUL (TR) - Social life, which was significantly restricted during the pandemic, caused people to have difficulties especially in psychological aspects. Many problems such as loneliness, loss of motivation and depression were sought for solutions by adopting a pet. According to a study conducted with the participation of more than 1,300 pet owners in the United States, 1 out of every 5 people in the pandemic has a pawed friend. However, the pandemic conditions also forced pets. Just like humans, they had to spend more time at home and have little contact with the environment and other people and animals. Long-term isolation caused psychological problems such as separation anxiety and some behavioral disorders brought about by inadequate socialization. With the gradual normalization, a new era has begun for both pets and their owners, and an important move came from PetPaw for them to spend this adaptation process healthier. PetPaw, which was launched in February as a social media platform for pets, aims to expand their social circle while allowing their owners to easily find a partner or playmate, thanks to the profiles created for pawed friends.

It is used both in Turkey and the UK

Making a statement on the subject, PetPaw Founder Barkın Akabey said, “During the curfews imposed within the scope of the pandemic, pet owners could only walk their pawed friends up to 15 meters from their homes. For this reason, dogs that could not wander around the streets very much could not discover new people, places and smells. The lack of guests in the home limited both dogs and cats' ability to learn how to adapt to people entering their personal space. Based on this, we wanted to open a space for both our pawed friends and their families, and we launched PetPaw, a social media platform special for pets. Our platform, which is currently actively used in England, has reached thousands of users since it went live in Turkey on February 27.”

Next is to move animal adoption processes from shelters to digital media.

Referring to the features of the platform, Barkın Akabey said, “With PetPaw, we help pets find a partner or playmate, and help their owners acquire an animal-loving social environment. Thanks to the online store on the platform, we make the most affordable pet products available with a single click. We also offer features such as easily accessing the information of the nearest veterinarians and pet shops and getting directions, and we allow pet owners to access the most useful and up-to-date information for their paw friends. At the same time, thanks to the reminder feature of the platform, we make it easy to create notifications for important days such as vaccination or shaving time. With the new features we are working on, we aim to meet all the needs of pet owners under one roof. One of our plans for the near future is to move the animal adoption processes from shelters to digital media.”
