According to teias data, geothermal, wind and solar energy in our country in 2017 While 26,562 gigawatts / hour of electricity was generated, that figure reached 45,897 in 2020, up 72 per cent. "Turkey is moving rapidly towards becoming a fully independent country in energy with its large investments in energy," said Mustafa Yiğit Zeren, CEO of Zeren Group, which makes investments in wind energy in Turkey and Europe.

İSTANBUL (TR) - The world's population is increasing by an average of 80 million every year, while energy consumption is rising with the same acceleration. Fossil fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas are insufficient in the long term to meet energy needs, while the chemicals they emit are seriously damaging the world. While this brings renewable energy sources to the fore, it seems that work on energy technologies is gaining momentum in Turkey as well as all over the world. According to teias data, our country generated 26,562 gigawatts / hour of electricity in 2017 with geothermal, wind and solar energy, while this figure reached 45,897 in 2020, an increase of 72 percent. Mustafa Yiğit Zeren, CEO of Zeren Group, which invests in wind energy in Turkey and Europe, said: “for the future of the world, renewable energy sources are gaining more importance every day. Especially during this period, when we are increasingly feeling the effects of climate change, Turkey is rapidly moving towards becoming a fully independent country in energy with its large investments,” he said.

30% of electricity will be supplied from renewable sources

Noting that while the world's energy consumption is increasing, fossil fuel resources are also constantly decreasing Mustafa Yiğit Zeren, " every year we consume more energy than the last. In order to meet this high demand, we need to make the highest use of renewable energy sources. Turkey aims to meet at least 30 percent of total electricity demand and 10 percent of transportation sector needs from renewable energy by 2023. It also aims to reduce energy density, that is, the amount of energy consumed per unit of GDP, by at least 20 percent based on 2011. As a country rich in renewable energy sources, we are taking firm steps towards these goals, and we also see that our success is an example, especially for Europe”

50 MW portfolio targeted in 3 years

As one of Turkey's long-established holdings, they undertake the mission of providing national income in the energy field, and in this context they export renewable energy projects, Mustafa Yiğit Zeren said: “We believe that the future is in renewable energy. In 2021, we aim to make international investments and grow in strategic areas. We prioritise renewable energy investments. We are developing renewable energy projects for European countries, especially the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine and Romania. In these countries, we plan to reach a portfolio of 50 MW in the next 3-year period with investments that we will make in solar and wind energy,” he said.
