The biggest SPP (Solar Power Plant) project of the European Side is brought to life with an investment of approximately 1 million dollars by Mars Logistics. With the project, 12.098 square meters of roof area of Hadımköy Logistics Center will be covered with solar panels.

ISTANBUL (TR) - Mars Logistics is realizing the biggest SPP (Solar Power Plant System) project of the European Side by making an investment of approximately 1 million dollars. 4914 photovoltaic solar panels will be used in the project where 12,098 square meters of the roof area of ​​Hadımköy Logistics Center will be covered with solar panels. The installed power of the Rooftop Solar Power Plant will be 2 MW and it will be able to generate 2.5 MWh of electricity throughout the year. Stating that the project will serve multiple purposes, Mars Logistics Board Chairman Garip Sahillioğlu said, “The Hadımköy Logistics Center Rooftop Solar Power Plant has been on the agenda since the construction of the Hadımköy Logistics Center and has been carried out by including it in our strategic actions as of 2019. The facility, which will serve more than one purpose was shaped by our global development goals, our sustainability projects and our life cycle perspective.”
 
94,469 trees will be saved annually

Pointing out that the project will show its positive effects on nature in the short term, Garip Sahillioğlu said, “We preferred this project regarding general advantages of renewable energy, as well as the fact that it is a clean energy source that affects the environment much less than fossil energy technologies, it produces limitless energy sources, greenhouse effect and positive effects on global warming. In return to the electricity to be produced within the scope of the project, 1,133.63 tons of carbon dioxide will be saved annually and there will be emission reduction for 94,469 trees annually and 2,361,725 ​​trees at the end of 25 years.”

Stating that the project will serve a total of 7 goals from the Sustainable Development Goals, which is a whole consist of 17 goals determined by the United Nations, Sahillioğlu said, “We will achieve a total of 7 goals with this project - “Accessible and Clean Energy” and “Climate Actions ” from the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations directly and "Decent Work and Economic Growth", "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", "Sustainable Cities and Living Spaces”, "Responsible Production and Consumption" and "Collaboration Development" indirectly.
 
Sustainability Investments Will Continue

Stating that “Using the most appropriate technology and processes in its activities to protect the ecological balance by using resources sustainably and to reduce carbon emissions is one of the environmental policies implemented by Mars Logistics”, Sahillioğlu stated that they included this understanding in all activities of Mars Logistics and said, “Environment friendly As a result of the use of Intermodal, a transportation method, we prevented 18.7 billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emission and saved 1 million 560 thousand trees. With the recycling of our paper waste, we prevented 9,168 trees from being cut down only between 2016-2020. Since 2006, we have established Mars Forests by planting 5,200 saplings in Çatalca, Manisa and Çanakkale with the cooperation of ÇEKÜL, TEMA and the Aegean Forest Foundation. With our social responsibility project, we prevented the pollution of millions of litres of clean water by recycling waste oil. Thanks to our rainwater collection project in Hadımköy Logistics Center, we provide a separate collection of rainwater and meet the various water needs of the campus (firewater, etc.), especially the environmental landscape. In our logistics warehouses, we use paper pallets made of recycled paper instead of classical wooden pallets.” He stated that they will continue their activities and investments with the understanding of sustainability and that they are working on new projects.
